Care for children and vulnerable people through Income Generating Activities
Project by Le Bon Refuge Association
Problem: Fight hunger; assist displaced children, orphans and young adults
The project will consist of setting up an income-generating activity to support vulnerable children that the Bon Refuge association supports.
Solution: The project's objective is to set up an income-generating activity through agriculture. We have already procured the land and will start with water drilling and water pump installation for irrigation. We will then conduct agricultural work, sell the products on the market, and use the revenue to run the orphanage.
Since 2013, Le Bon Refuge has started, according to Togolese state policy, the reintegration of children into their biological or foster families. From 2015 to date, cases that required the intervention of Bon Refuge were immediately returned to their families. As of today, we have in eighty-five (85) families, one hundred and forty-three (143) children including sixty (60) girls and eighty-three (83) boys in seven (07) zones namely: Tabligbo in the prefecture of Yoto, Afagnan, Logomé and Hompou in the prefecture of Bas-Mono, Adéti-Kopé in the prefecture of Golfe, Lomé Commune and Noèpé in the prefecture of Avé.
More than 90% of the parents and guardians of our beneficiaries, being illiterate and unemployed, are cultivators of small portions of land, cultivating just for consumption. 05% of parents and guardians resell a few products which barely bring in fifteen to twenty thousand CFA francs in profit per month because of the working capital which is not significant enough. 05% of parents and guardians are civil servants with a monthly salary ranging between twenty thousand (20,000) and forty thousand (40,000) CFA francs for the whole family.
To meet the needs of children, the association has started a small ruminant breeding activity as well as a small field to meet expectations. However, we lack the means to be able to effectively realize our vision.
Population: 220 people (kids to young adults)
Duration: This project will last two (02) years of agricultural activity with the involvement of the families of the beneficiary children.
Budget: $8000
