Children’s Education (Enfants Tresors)

Project by BNCE-Togo

Problem: The project aims to improve children's status and future prospects from poor and disadvantaged environments in Lomé and Avoutokpa. BNCE-Togo carries out activities to prevent violence against children. We have two early learning centers that train children with everyday life skills through classical and situational pedagogy. Instead of wandering in abandoned homes and being left to abuse, these children are accompanied by BNCE educators, where they receive education, protection, and health care. Around 350 children are supported each year.

Solution: Welcoming children to the BNCE-Togo early learning centers allows them to be under the supervision of educators during the day. These children, despite their young age, will be able to be actors of transformation in their immediate environment through the "situational pedagogy" which makes them suitable for this. The time at the center allows them to flourish, acquire educational foundations, and acquire preschool training, which thus facilitates their access to primary school. Through games, children learn and grow by playing. Parents will be strengthened in their parental education through resilience and parenting workshops.

Target population: Children aged 3 to 6 years old from poor/destitute families or victims of violence, single-parent families, children of women market “aides,” and women in rural areas. There are also children with disabilities from the Referral, Orientation, and Protection Center for Children in Difficult Situations.

  • 300 parents

  • 600 relatives of children and parents
